Whispering to the sharks...

I have been quite busy recently creating lenses myself. By the way, did you guys/girls know about lensroll? It is a great site to promote your lenses, give it a try!

This time, I wanted to feature a lens about shark whisperers. It is a good lens about a fantastic story:

Speaking about stories, sunny_saib had the clever idea to gather some nice stories in this lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/stories-on-squidoo-all-lenses-that-tell-great-stories
Check it out and submit your story if you have one.

Finally, I have found this lovely lens about notes in lunch box:

Do you have kids yourself? Do you include notes in their lunch boxes?

And yet another set of wonderful lenses

Hi squids, how are you? Busy creating Halloween lenses? I wanted to feature some of them today but decided it was still too early. Many more lenses are coming and we are not even in October yet!

So, here are some non-Halloween-related lenses.

One that many of you know is this one:
http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo-graphics
Consider this as a bump for new lensmasters to find it. Great squid graphics you can use in your lenses, just don't forget to give the credit to their author.

Another quite old lens is this one:
http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-save-a-baby-trapped-in-a-hot-car
It got a purple star and I generally like to find less known lenses but this one really deserves your attention. It is about breaking a car window to save a baby forgotten in it.

Finally a recent lens by a quite new lensmaster:

Nice topic and beautiful little lens.

More great lenses to check

First, I am happy to feature a lens made by Robin Svedi, also known as RMS as she is a Squidoo community organizer. If someone should be checked for great lenses it is her and I selected one which is really good:
http://www.squidoo.com/ghost-of-a-chance
What is the lens about? Well it is a lovely story, well-written and fast pace. Maybe not to everyone's taste but I liked it and think you should check it up.

Then comes a lens which is indredibly beautiful. His author is a photographer and you could have guessed it by the quality of the pictures in his his lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/wildlife-photography-in-the-pilanesberg-game-reserve
See by yourself but be careful you may get jealous not to have so great photographs for your own lenses :p

Another lens that I thought was worth mentioning is the squiddon't lens. It took me a while to find it. If you are looking for the Squidoo editorial guidelines, this is the lens you want:
http://www.squidoo.com/squiddont
It will tell you everything you want to know about what is allowed or not allowed to write about, topics you should avoid etc... A must-bookmark lens.

A January lens? Yes, I know, January is not coming soon, but I still think this lens is worth checking:
http://www.squidoo.com/NationalHandwritingDay
It is more about Handwriting than about January and it is beautiful. What else to ask?

British food, Captcha and Squidoo tips

Hi squids, how are you doing?

Last time, I wrote about the closure of the old Forum and the opening of the new one. However, I did not mention the Squidoo games. It is games running in the forum and here is a lens that will tell you more about them: http://www.squidoo.com/let-the-squidoo-games-begin

Otherwise, here are 3 lenses I have selected for you:

1) Is British food good?

I want to refrain from linking to lenses that are lotd, on the front page, etc... as they don't necessarily need extra promotion but this lens is really nice. The author tells us more about the British food in an enjoyable way and doesn't hesitate to mention the French-British rivalry.

2) Do you know Captcha?

Well, you have probably used it but what to you know about it? This informative lens will tell you more about it and you can feel the interest of the writer for this subject.

3) Squidoo tips

I don't want to link too often to Squidoo tips but I couldn't help it in this case. This lens from Bonnie is just excellent and every Squidoo newcomers should read it (you can read it even if you are not a newcomer).

3 Lenses You Should Read

Here are some random lenses I have come across recently. They are perfect candidates for this blog as they:
- did not won a purple star
- were not selected as lens of the day
- are not easy to find with a search (the first one is on the second page of the search results for "Vietnam", same for the second one about "Godfather" and for the third one... would you really have looked for "Filipino alphabet"?)
How to find them? Chance or following my blog :-)

1) Touching Lens about the Vietnam War

Probably all the lenses dealing with this subject are touching but I liked this one particularly:
http://www.squidoo.com/my-emotional-visit-to-the-vietnam-memorial

The author tells us more about his visit to the Vietnam memorial Veterans Memorial. It is particularly intense because the author is a vet of the Vietnam war, because of the personal perspective of the stories told in this lens and because of the images and videos carefully selected by the author.

2) A Godfather Lens by a Godfather Fan

You recognize a fan of the Godfather movies when you see he/she is using an image from the movies as his/her profile picture. This is the case for Godfather25, the author of the following lens:

There has been so much said about these films that one could have thought no more new could be said about them. Wrong, the author created an entertaining lens with the famous quotes from the movies. What makes this lens special is that all the quotes are explained in details, are situated in the context, illustrated by extracts from the movies. Great work that only a true fan could have done.

3) A bit of culture

Some languages have a fascinating history and the history of the Filipino alphabet is definitively enjoyable to read about. Just in the past 100 years, the number of characters in this alphabet changed three times and even its name was changed twice. Well, at least, this is what I recall after reading this lens... go check by yourself:

Informative, well explained and enjoyable. What more to ask?

Recent News

There have been some big news recently and I would like to come back to them.

1) Bye, Megan and good luck!

First, Megan has left Squidoo. She is one a co-founder  of Squidoo so it is a bit sad but at the same time I am happy for her as she is up to new challenges starting a new company etc...
Here is the link to the video she posted: a personal note and video from Megan.

2) Farewell SquidU, thanks for the ride

It is now official, the SquidU forum has closed. It now displays the message:

"SquidU is closed for new posts, but is maintained in read-only mode for archival purposes. Please visit http://hq.squidoo.com/forums/forum/chatterbox/ for the new Squidoo forum."

Why did it close? Why did it have to open under the Squidoo HQ? Well, it is to enhance the interaction between lensmasters. No need to know the existence of a forum website outside Squidoo anymore, no need to apply there, to check both Squidoo and SquidU... Just all in one. It is just simpler.
However, I think the SquidU forum could have been maintained as an unofficial forum. Maybe someone will start an unofficial forum later... who knows?

3) Halloween Is Coming

One of the great things about quests in Squidoo is that they tend to give you directions to create successful content. Here for example, it is important to begin with Halloween articles now, so that they are ready before Halloween. And of course, instead of doing it myself, I am writing this post :p

Good Halloween everyone!

First post and presentation

Welcome to "Squid My Life",

The aim of this blog is just to share some lenses I like very much. I though about it first when I was asked in the Squidoo forum about a lens I admire. And then today, I saw a topic about random generator where people could simply read random lenses. It would probably be a nice feature but I am not sure of the quality of the content that would come out of it. You may not have the same taste as me but you can be sure that at least 1 person is liking the lenses featured here (me).

I will also comment on some Squidoo news. I have the feeling it may be interesting to have the feedback from a Squidoo user perspective and not only have the HQ point of view. My aim is not to start a war though. I think the HQ is doing a great job, I will simply, when necessary, express my disagreement with them.

Maybe it is a stupid idea, maybe it is a good one. Time (and you, my readers) will tell.

Welcome again, and have a great reading experience!
